Boards & Committees

Boards and Committees act as advisory bodies to assist the council in matters of mutual concern within the County. Members at large are made up of Woodlands County elected officials and residents. They are established through bylaws and terms of reference.

Below is a list of boards and committees:

The Agriculture Services Board acts as an advisory body to assist Council and the Minister, in matters of mutual concern. The Board promotes diverse and innovative agriculture by providing agricultural programs and services that are valued by the agricultural industry and rural residents within the municipality. 

The Board is comprised of 4 councillors and 3 members at large and meets every second Tuesday of each month.

The Airport Advisory Committee provides policy advice and recommendations to Council on various issues related to the CYZU Airport, including long-range planning, economic development, marketing, air transportation planning, and environmental and sustainability issues.

The Committee is comprised of 3 Woodlands County Councillors, 3 Town of Whitecourt Councillors, and 2 airport user representatives. Members meet quarterly or as required.

Members of the Council Remuneration Review Committee meet and review the compensation in the third year of the Council Term of Office.

The Committee is comprised of 3 councillors, and the Director of Corporate Services.

POLICY 1020 - Council Remuneration Review Committee

The Economic Development Committee looks at economic development within the County and how best to promote the County to grow and diversify the economy and assist existing businesses to meet the needs of potential investors.

The Committee is comprised of 3 councillors, and 4 members at large. Meetings are held on the third Thursday of each month.

The Committee is comprised of 3 councillors and meets as required.

The Joint Liaison Committee meets to maintain open communication between Woodlands County and the Town of Whitecourt and review issues of common interest for recommendations to Council.

It is comprised of 3 Woodlands County Councillors and 3 Town of Whitecourt Councillors. Meetings are held once a month.

The Municipal Planning Commission reviews and makes decisions on development and subdivision applications and advises Council on amendments to the Land Use Bylaw.

It is comprised of 4 councillors and 3 members at large.

Meetings are held on the first and third Wednesday, or as required.

The Subdivision Development Appeal Board hears appeals on subdivision development decisions made by the Development Authority. The Board makes a decision based on the information that is in the information package and any additional information accepted at the hearing.

The Board consists of 1 councillor and 4 members at large who are trained in the hearing process. The Board meets for public hearings as required.

The Community Services Committee provides direction to F.C.S.S. (Family and Community Support Services), recreation and arts & culture programming to support viable County created or County recognized agencies, organizations, or groups via approving grants, bursaries, and other funding opportunities.

The Committee is comprised of 3 councillors and 4 members at large and meets every second Thursday of each month.

The Woodlands County Library Board oversees library services provided to residents at the Fort Assiniboine Public Library and the Blue Ridge Community Library.

It is comprised of 2 councillors and 3 members at large for a 3-year term. The Board meets every second month.
