Site Selection & Development

Strategic Economic Development is planned development that creates economic opportunity while protecting existing residents and the environment.

A newly adopted Municipal Development Plan and a Land Use Bylaw, currently under review, create great opportunities for all levels of new investment. Non-Residential Development Permits are reviewed as quickly as legislation allows, often within 90 days.

Existing infrastructure includes great access to highway, rail, municipal and other water sources, natural gas lines, a robust power grid, internet service at or above federal standards and the CYZU Airport, operated by Woodlands County.

Woodlands County Council has set a path towards creating and a growing, sustainable, inclusive, affordable and diverse economic base. Forestry, Agriculture, Tourism and Energy are the pillars of our local economy followed by other sectors including: transportation, logistics, manufacturing and gravel mining.

Over 4,500 local residents and 20,000 regional residents bring life, expertise, goals and dreams to our local economy. People and projects grounded in building strong partnerships that create a sustainable local economy while respecting the history and the environment.

The Woodlands County Snapshot explains the advantages of building a business within the County and shows the desired circular economy for the area.

The Woodlands County operated CYZU Airport is one of the top ten busiest airports in Alberta by aircraft movement. To see how economic activity in the region fits into the whole Alberta economy, visit Alberta Major Projects.
