ROLLING UPDATES
(See accordion panel at the bottom of the page for County Updates from previous days)

11:51am May 16: Woodlands County Update:

Good morning, Woodlands! We hope everyone had a good night's sleep in their own beds. Here's some more information to keep in mind for the coming days.

🚁Alberta Wildfire will continue using helicopters over the coming days to monitor the fire and look for hot spots in the interior of the burn area.

⚠️ DANGER TREE SAFETY NOTICE ⚠️
As residents return to wildfire-affected areas, Woodlands County would like to remind the public that fire-damaged trees can remain hazardous long after a wildfire is considered under control.

During emergency response operations, certified Danger Tree Assessors and Fallers established hazard zones around access routes, driveways, and operational work areas to allow firefighters and emergency crews to work safely. Tree removal within these zones was completed strictly for operational safety purposes.

It is important for residents to understand:
• Trees outside of the identified hazard zones may still be dangerous
• A tree may appear healthy but have hidden fire, root, or structural damage
• Hazard tree assessments are a snapshot in time and conditions can worsen over days, weeks, or months
• Wind and weather can increase the likelihood of falling trees or branches

Many trees outside operational hazard zones were flagged or identified as concerns but were not removed during wildfire operations. Those trees now become the responsibility of the landowner to monitor, assess, and manage.

Woodlands County encourages property owners to:
✅ Use caution when walking or working in burned areas
✅ Watch for leaning trees, cracked trunks, hanging limbs, or shifting root systems
✅ Keep family members and visitors away from unstable treed areas
✅ Contact a qualified arborist or certified tree professional if unsure about tree safety
✅ Exercise additional caution during windy conditions

Your awareness and caution are critical as recovery continues. Public safety remains our priority.

PREVIOUS UPDATES for WWF017

6:49pm May 15 – Woodlands County Update:
🟢 RE-ENTRY into ALL ZONES is now COMPLETE 🟢 Thank you to everyone for your cooperation and patience throughout the evacuation. Residents are back in their homes.
⚠️ LOCAL TRAFFIC ONLY — The public is asked to stay away from the Evacuation Area until further notice. Emergency crews are continuing assessments and safety work, and residents need time to resettle. The catchment-area restriction during re-entry was put in place to keep a majority of neighbours present in the area and reduce the risk of property crime in evacuated homes. We ask that non-residents continue to respect the area while crews complete their work.
🔥 Watch for HOT SPOTS. The fire is under control, but hot spots are still possible. If you see smoke, flame, or any sign of a hot spot, do not attempt to extinguish it yourself.
For grass and tree hot spots, call 310-FIRE (3473)
For structural hot spots, call 9-1-1

Keep in mind, hot spots are normal in the 'burn area'. Alberta Wildfire will be flying helicopters over the burn area very early tomorrow morning to check for hot spots.

• The State of Local Emergency continues until further notice. Watch for further updates throughout the weekend.
• No drones over the Evacuation Area.
• The Reception Centre is now closed.
•  Vouchers remain valid until the end of today, Friday May 15.
